PDP raises alarm over plot to destabilise Sokoto polls

The Sokoto state chapter Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised the alarm over alleged  plans by the rival All Progressive Congress (APC), some serving and former governors from neighbouring states to destabilise the rerun election in the state .

Addressing newsmen in Sokoto, the PDP state chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma said the plan was to stuff  ballot boxes and cause chaos in areas identified as PDP strongholds.

He said security agencies should live up to their responsibilities and not allow themselves to be used by anybody.

Milgoma also called on the INEC to remain resolute and neutral.

He described  people of the state as  law abiding, and would not accept anything short of free fair and credible rerun.

The party leader said the electorate gave  their mandate to Aminu Waziri Tambuwal during the Saturday 9 March poll.

Meanwhile, a coalition of NGOs has expressed concern over the massive deployment of security personnel to some local government areas in the state where the rerun election would hold.

The coalition which is under the auspices of Nigeria Youth Coalition Against Electoral Violence in Northwest NYCAEV said, “Few days to the rerun ,  massive troops are seen being deployed in the state and posted in the various places where rerun will hold.

“Combined forces of the military, police and other security agencies are patrolling various places even where there are no security threats.”

They also accused the APC of extending invitations to their friends and APC stalwarts from Kebbi and Zamfara states to come to Sokoto to assist them.

They alleged that some hired  political thugs were sent from the neighbouring states of Kebbi and Zamfara allegedly camped in places and major hotels in Sokoto with intent to cause chaos.
