PDP stalwart, others defect to APC in Katsina

A stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina state, Alhaji Murtala Ibrahim Safana, Dr. Salisu Banye, and thousands of supporters have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
They were received yesterday at a ceremony organised at the secretariat of the party in Safana local government, where they tore the membership cards of their former party and registered with the APC. Speaking at the ceremony, the leader of the defectors, Safana, disclosed that they decided to join the APC “due to the wonderful performance of the party at both the state and the national levels.”
He noted that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration’s efforts in tackling corruption, insecurity and economic development attracted them to the party, stressing that they had put the party on the path of progress. Safana said considering the rot the APC administration met on ground and its efforts to put the country back on track, “all lovers of democracy and the unity of the country must come together to support all the government’s initiatives.”
Similarly, Safana commended Governor Aminu Bello Masari, for addressing insecurity in the state, saying that where Safana and other neighbouring local governments were the major benefi ciaries. He noted that “before the advent of Masari’s administration, farming activities and rearing of cattle faced major setbacks.” Safana also praised the government for its “initiatives in reviving the education, health, agriculture, water resources and industrial sectors.”
