A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Alhaji Dahiru Hassan Kera, has described the recent judgment by the Supreme Court that ousted the Ali Modu Sherriff faction and declared the Ahmad Mohammed Makarfi-led faction as the authentic PDP leadership as a victory for democracy. In a press statement in Abuja yesterday, Kera expressed the conviction that the judgement would strengthen the nation’s democratic institution and bring about political sustainability. “Since we lost election in 2015, instead of going back to the drawing board, correct our mistakes and restrategise to reclaim power from the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party has been battling with leadership crisis.
“But with this resolution at the apex court, it is now time for us to reappraise our position, mend our relationship, apologise to each other where necessary, regroup and chart a new path for our great party,” he said. He said there were no victors no vanquished in the judgement, adding that it’s the PDP and democracy that at last won because without viable and vibrant opposition, the APC led government may plunge the country into anarchy.”
He urged party faithful to be determined and strong again, get their acts together, rise above differences and make a claim for power come 2019 in order to return the country to its sound and ideal trajectory. Kera advised all the party supporters to desist from unguided comments and name calling that could “further stifle or threaten the fragile peace that is now returning to our great party and to maintain harmony within the ranks of the party. He called on the Makarfi-led PDP executive to immediately embark on reconciliatory moves that will return aggrieved members back to its umbrella.
