PDP: Taraba ex-commissioner joins race for Publicity Secretary

***Says NPS office should be reserved for  journalist

Another aspirant to the office of the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Emma Bello has underscored the need to elect a professional journalist as the National Publicity Secretary of the party in the December National Convention.

Bello, who was a two time commissioner for  Information and Tourism in Taraba state said it is an affront on the journalism community if the next spokesman of the party is allowed to emerge from other professions.

The former editor of Leadership and ThisDay newspapers said the next spokesman of the party should not be a man who hails from a non PDP state.

According to Bello, a National Publicity Secretary from a non PDP state will face a serious battle from the governor of his state which can easily distract him from effectively doing the job.

He noted that the Taraba state governor, Arc Darius Isiaku is so passionate about building the party.

The former Information Commissioner told journalists that he as a professional would bring his experience to bear, as well as take journalists covering the party along in his job.
“What we needs is a colleague that cares about us; all these things have to be placed on the front burner. Certain offices need to be occupied by professionals and the NPS for the PDP is no exception,” he said.

He noted that “opposition does not mean that government should fail. PDP should get the office of its image making right. We need a journalist to sit in the office,”he stated.
