PDP wants competency test for Oshiomhole

The leadership of Edo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a competency test for Governor Adams Oshiomhole in order to determine whether or not he was still capable of piloting the state’s affairs.

This was just as the party also lampooned the governor’s plan to build Science and Technology varsity in his senatorial district and handover same to a would-be private owner.

Chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, who disclosed this at a news briefing in Benin City, said the competency test  had become necessary against the backdrop of unfolding events in the state which included the face-off between government and public school teachers over the recently “teachers’ competency test; even though the exercise failed woefully.”

Orbih, who noted that the PDP was not against anything that would bring development to the people, alleged that the governor was building his private university with public funds.

He challenged the governor to show Edo people the headquarters of the Ministry of Science and Technology where he budged the sum of N15 billion and N8 billion in the state’s budget of 2013 and 2014 respectively.

Besides, Orbih criticised the recent re-awarding of 200-bed central hospital project after part of it collapsed in June 2012, saying that the government failed to disclose the outcome of a committee probe into the tragedy.

“We cannot fold our arms and watch the government endangers the lives of entire state.”
He took a swipe at the government for going ahead with the assessment test despite a substantive court order to that effect stating “this showed Oshiomhole has no respect for judiciary and the rule of law.”

“You can see that we now have a labour leader in the state that is insensitive to the plight and welfare of Edo workers.”
He alleged that the government was fraudulent and full of deceit pointing out that “last year, the governor of the day celebrated 60; today, they said they are celebrating 62. You can see there is deceit in his character.”
