PDP welcomes Obaseki’s move to probe Oshiomhole

The Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Thursday cautioned Governor Godwin Obaseki not to use his purported probe of his estrange ”godfather” and predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as a bargaining power to resolve his political differences with the later.

The party said while the issues cannot be ignored, ”government must resist pressure to resolve current political disagreements with this issue”.

State chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, stated this in response to governor Obaseki’s move to probe the 200-bed accident and emergency ward at the Benin Central hospital contract during Oshiomhole’s administration.

The governor’s media aide, Crusoe Osagie, had said: ”the state government will investigate allegations of fraud and irregularities with the contracting for procurement of the hospital equipment.”

According to Crusoe, ”a commission of enquiry would have a mandate to ascertain if details of contracts were strictly followed, especially the quality of materials, as heavy bills are being incurred for patch up work at the hospital.”

However, the PDP chair commended what he termed belated admission and disclosures of fraud in the project haven denied same in the past when the party raised the alarm.

Orbih further said: ”by 2016, the government had wasted over N10,267,413,000.00 and every year, the Obaseki Government have been allocating and spending millions of Naira to  complete the already commissioned project.”

The hospital was commissioned by president Muhammadu Buhari in November 2016. It however remain under lock over alleged irreconcilable difference in the contract.

The facility was only opened to patients in June 2019.
