Peace Day: Fulani reiterate commitment to peaceful Nigeria

The Fulani under the umbrella of Miyetti Allah Wallidira have reassured Nigerians of their commitment to a peaceful Nigeria free of gun related violence and crisis orchestrated by small arms.
National chairman of the group, Malam Yusuf Musa Ardo, gave the assurance in Abuja weekend while marking this year’s United Nation’s Day of Peace organised by West Africa Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA).

He said though the Fulani are the worst hit in the conflict presently orchestrated by climate change,  lack of water in Lake Chad has made  people to migrated their base to areas where cultural differences, poverty and unemployment has combined to increase conflict

“I assure Nigerians of our commitment to peaceful Nigeria free of gun related violence and crisis orchestrated by small arms that knows no religion or tribe. Our presence is a perfect demonstration to our commitment to a peaceful Nigeria,” Ardo said.

He called on Nigerian civil society action to support local government autonomy because most of the early warning symptoms emanate from local communities.
In his lecture, Professor Aliyu Dagaci of the University of Abuja said climate change drove Nigerians into poverty and called on government to intervene by providing enabling environment for the Fulani’s in the country.
Speaking in the same vein, vice chairman of Madobi local government area, Kano state, Muntari Dahiru Gora said without local government autonomy, there would be no peace in the country.
He said local governments are close to the grassroots, but that they have no power to control crisis when they arose.
