Kaduna state chairman of Jama’atul Nasrul Islam (JNI), Alhaji Jafaru Makarfi, has reiterated the need for tolerance and understanding as the sure way to Nigeria’s growth and development as a nation.
Makarfi made the call while receiving members of Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria (PRRFN), comprising Muslims and Christians in the state who paid him a courtesy visit at his residence.
According to him, “there is need for all peace-centred NGOs and CSOs in the state in particular and the country in general to extend their peace
missions to rural areas to promote peace and understanding in the country.
Makarfi pointed out that most of the activities of inter-faith and peace promoting NGOs usually take place in the cities and not the rural areas where their services are seriously needed, to particularly douse ethno-religious and political crisis threatening peace and stability in rural communities.
The JNI chairman drew the attention of all NGOs and CSOs in the state to the need to take peace campaigns to local communities, including ghettos, through the use of sports and peace games in order to inculcate the spirit of oneness, love and unity among the various youth groups residing in rural communities and appealed to government and wealthy individuals to always support peace missions by NGOs and CSOS in the state.
Responding on behalf of the Muslim and Christian clerics who visited the JNI chairman, Pastor Yohanna Buru, said the courtesy visit was to strengthen peaceful co-existence between Muslims and Christians in the state, and to also foster inter-religious tolerance amongst the different faith- based organisations.
