PenCom DG bags outstanding performance award

A civil society organisation, Citizens Watch Advocacy Initiative (CWAI), has honoured the director-general of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Hajiya Aisha Dahir-Umar, with the award of ‘The Most Outstanding and Distinguished Director-General of the Decade in Nigeria.’

This was contained in a press statement issued Wednesday in Abuja by the group’s executive secretary, Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele.

According to the statement, the revolutionary transformation of the industry has become the envy of not only Nigeria, but the world over.

It read in part, “PenCom has become a benchmark for success and a reference point, which is why investors, including chief executives of states, are willing to invest in pension portfolios and at the same time are ready to accept loans to better their investments at the state level.

“The CWAI’s decision to honour her was made due to her bold initiatives in turning around the pension industry by re-positioning and re-branding the regulatory body to meet international best practices, as well as the quantum turnaround of the pension administration in Nigeria which has attracted rating agencies across the globe.

“CWAI also acknowledges the good governance structure put in place by the current management at PenCom, including the restoration of citizens’ confidence as well as attracting investors who are willing to invest in the industry due to the transformation that has taken place at the Commission.

“CWAI attributes this to the fact that the present management under Hajiya Aisha Dahir-Umar has changed the narrative, shaped opinions within and outside the country due to her unique management style and sensitisation in various media platforms and town hall meetings.”
