People with disability commend Yobe assembly, seek passage of bill

Members of Yobe State House of Assembly have been commended by the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPD) for the efforts so far put in place to see that their bill was read at the floor of the State Assembly.

The commendation was made on Wednesday by its chairman, Usman Nura Gabai, who said the lamakers have deep concern for the disable
persons in the state.

“Almost all the members are putting-in their efforts to see that the bill on the people with disabilities is passed into law.  We really commend their effort hoping that it will see the light of the day before the end of the present assembly as promised”.

“The bill was on the order of the last sitting when the house went on recess and promised to treat it on May 30, 2019 when the house
reconvene”, he said.

According to Bura, the bill, which is expected to be domesticated in Yobe state was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari on
January 23, 2019.

The bill, if signed into law will prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability and impose sanctions including fines and prison
sentences on those who would contravene it.
