Immediate past president of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulhamid Adi, has said that perseverance and tolerance saw him through “in the challenging moments” of his tenure.
He said though his tenure as President of the umbrella body of all socio- cultural organisations of Ilorin indigenes was challenging, but that he was able to manage the situations that confronted him by being tolerant to all “manners of people that attempted to provoke” him.
Adi stated this yesterday at a thanksgiving prayer jointly organised in his honour by Paka Development Association (PADA), Pakata Muslim Community (PMC) and the Pakata branch of the IEDPU.
He urged “all sons and daughters of the emirate” to rally support for the leadership of the IEDPU to succeed.
In his speech, the incumbent IEDPU president, Ambassador Uthman Abdulazeez, described his predecessor as “an administrator and worthy leader” who inculcated leadership qualities in others.
He said Adi’s tenure as president brought progress and development to Ilorin communities in many sphere of lives.
In his remarks, a former special Assistant to the Governor on Tertiary Health Matters, Dr. Ibrahim Gambari, praised the former president for creating a level playing ground to all sections of the Emirate.
He said Adi, during his tenure, never allowed the IEDPU to be reduced to a voice for a “section of the emirate,” a legacy which, he said, must be sustained by the incumbent leadership for unity and peace to continue to reign supreme in the Emirate.
