Pharmacy council seals 332 premises in Jigawa

No fewer than 332 premises have been sealed up with three others issued with compliance directives for various offences across the 27 local government areas of Jigawa state by the inspection and monitoring unit of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN).

Addressing a press conference over the weekend in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital, Pharm Anthony Aruya said a total of 462 premises comprising of 12 pharmacies and 450 patent medicine shops across the state were visited and inspected in line with the National Drug Distribution Guidelines of the Federal Government (NDDG).

She said the sealed premises included five pharmacies and 337 patent medicine shops found with various offences; ranging from poor handling of controlled substances, sale and dispensing of ethical prescription drugs without the supervision of pharmacists, unhygienic environment, poor documentation among others.

“We are in Jigawa state in continuation of our activities aimed at sanitizing the system for better pharmaceutical services delivery to the good people of the state and the nation at large,” she explained.

The director further advised the general public to stop patronising quacks and always ask for registration status of facilities as well as requesting for current licenses issued by IMPCN.

The IMPCN warned that any premises found selling above their scope of operation such as sale and dispensing of ethical products or handling controlled medicines without the presence of superintendent pharmacists will be dealt with according to the law.
