Pictures: Wilder ‘lures’ Klitschko out of retirement

Deontay Wilder has tried to persuade Wladimir Klitschko to come out of retirement and join the golden era of heavyweight boxing.

The American will fight Dominic Breazeale on May 18 after failing to agree terms with either of his major rivals Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

But he wants the former world champion Klitschko to enter the fray and cash in on what would be a lucrative showdown.

A rematch with Fury was taken off the table after the ‘Gypsy King’ signed a deal with US broadcaster ESPN.

Wilder works with Showtime and is in need of another revenue source.

Klitschko is 43 and hung up the gloves after losing to Joshua but keeps himself in good shape and is understood to be weighing up a return for the right price.

‘There’s a lot of money in the heavyweight division right now,’ Wilder told The Boxing Voice.

‘It’s a great time to be a heavyweight right now, why you think all these guys coming back – it’s an amazing time to comeback.

‘If he comes back, we’ve already reached out to see if this was real, if he comes back and they’re serious, because of what’s going on in the heavyweight division, why not have a more exciting fight.

‘If it does come about – why not, let’s entertain it, I’m sure a lot of people would love to see that one.’
