Pink Idea Africa, ECOFEPA to boost women participation in politics

Determined to boost women’s participation and strategies put in place to boost the participation of women and girls in politics, Pink Idea Africa, a non- governmental organisation (NGO) and the Ecowas Female Parliamentarians Association (ECOFEPA) recently had a town hall meeting in Abuja.
The Deputy Speaker, ECOWAS Parliament, Hon Aminata Toungara, explained that ECOFEPA’s tactical approach to women empowerment encapsulates top down protection and bottom up empowerment solutions for women and girls in order to achieve the 30% affirmative action within ECOWAS sub region.
She further explained that ECOFEPA is made of 25 women parliament with the support of its president adding that it is an organisation that has been existing and made up of 4 Bureau.
Toungara, lamented that men in politics don’t give space for women to participate but called on women to stand up and fight for their rights.
She also challenged women who are actively in politics to lobby for each other and support themselves.
She also encourage the youths to take charge in their various countries adding that “I know the world need women.”
Also, the coordinator of the PIA, Ameh Lillian Eru, explained that the group mean is to bring African women together and see how they can be relevant in the country.
“Our goals is to protect African women from any gender related violence, to praise and prepare the girl child for leadership roles in African and to raise African women that can build homes and families, “ he said.
