Plateau: Appeal Court affirms Longjan, Eric as Lawmakers

The Jos division of the Court of Appeal has reaffirmed the election of Senator Ignatious Longjan of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected representative of Plateau South senatorial district.

Justice Moses Ugor in a consensus judgement Thursday held that the decision of the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, which dismissed the petition of Mr  Kefas Dandam of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was right.

He ruled that though the tribunal did not carefully examined the results sheets of some polling units which were in contention based on alleged over voting, the Court of Appeal has done that and discovered that eight out of the 49 polling units, over voting occurred.

Further, Justice Ugor held that the court cancelled more than two thousands votes credited to both the APC and PDP in the eight polling units.

He upheld the judgement of the tribunal and the election of Senator Ignatius Longjan as the senator for Plateau South senatorial district.

Similarly, the court upheld the judgement of the tribunal, which had affirmed the election of Hon Eric Dakogol of the APC against the appeal of Mr Allessious Daboer of the PDP.

Dakogol was declared winner of an election into Quan’pan North state constituency, and returned as member of the Plateau state House of Assembly by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
