Plateau assembly frowns at failed restriction on motorcycles, tricycles in Jos

The Plateau state House of Assembly has frowned at the non enforcement of the ban on operation of tricycle and motorcycle in designated areas within the state capital, Jos.

The house raised concern following a motion by Hon Nanbol Daniel representing Lantang North Central state constituency.

He observed that in spite of existing law banning the operation of motorcycle and tricycle in designated places in Jos, operators of the ban transport outfits have continued to operate the business.

He regretted that Jos has suddenly become the dumping ground for persons sacked in Lagos and Abuja, Sokoto, and Kaduna.

It will be good for the law enforcement agents to come up and do their job. You no longer board Keke-Napep safely in some areas,” he said.

Similarly, Hon Ibrahim Baba Hassan expressed concern over the rising insecurity in Jos metropolis and its environs.

“The level of insecurity in Jos is becoming unbearable, and the better the law enforcement agents do their job the better for us all.”

The majority leader, Hon Naanlong Daniel, said laws must be adhered to by the people and even the law enforcement agents in the state must be seen to work harder to ensure compliance.

“We must ensure that whichever laws we make are they are fully followed and implemented,” he said.

Further, he said the government must also see to the issue of unemployment amongst teeming youths in the state, adding that these youths are into the genuine business of commercial tricycling and should be assisted by way of regulation

The Speaker, Hon Abok Ayuba, urged the state government to ensure that laws and motions passed by the house were implemented.

“Is it either when we make laws and sent out motion for people to implement or we summon those who failed to implement them to come before us and explain why,” the speaker said.
