Plateau assembly organises orientation course for members-elect

The Plateau Houses of Assembly, Wednesday, organised a three-day orientation course for the members-elect in the state.

The Speaker of the assembly, Mr Joshua Madaki, said the exercise was to acquaint the newly elected lawmakers with the basics of legislative functions.

Madaki said the course would avail the members-elect, particularly the first timers of the dos and don’ts of the legislative business.

“We are here to get ourselves acquainted with what our functions as lawmakers are.

“This exercise will take us through the rudiments of the entire legislative business, to enable us perform optimally in accordance with the provisions of the constitution by the time we are sworn into office.

“So basically, this kind of a training will give us better understanding of what will be expected of us as lawmakers when we get into office,” he said.

Gov. Simon Lalong, who declared the event open, said the exercise was apt, as it would widen the understanding of the new legislators.

The governor, who was represented by Mr Bala Bako, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, called on the members-elect to ensure a cordial working relationship with the executive arm of government for the development of the state. (NAN)
