Plateau LG poll: Police impose dusk-to-dawn restriction on movement

As citizens of Plateau state turns out to the polls to elect chairmenship and councillorship candidates that will lead the affairs of respective Local Councils, the Police Command in the State have imposed restriction on movement.

In a press briefing, the state commissioner of Police, Mr Chris Olakpe, said the Command had emplaced preventive and proactive strategies in order to ensure hitch-free elections.
He said: “Movement from one local government area to another is restricted from dusk to dawn, 6am to 6pm, except electoral officials and security personnel, Fire Service, media officers and all those on essential services.”

The police commissioner further enjoined the general public to strictly comply with the electoral law, cautioning that any breach of it by any person or groups will not be tolerated by the security agencies.
Olakpe called on the people to eschew thuggery, ballot snatching, arms proliferation, use of psychotropic substances/drugs and all forms of criminalities.

Elections into 15 local government councils out of 17in the state was already in progress and that state government had declared today, a public holiday to enable citizens exercise the franchise.
