Plateau mining site clash: Govt vows to bring culprits to book

Despite government intervention seven people have died following a  clash at a mining site in plateau state.
Six deaths were recorded last Wednesday as another person was killed on Saturday making a total of seven deaths recorded in the last one week.
According to reports, six local miners at a mining site last Wednesday in Plateau died following the clash between rival local miners in Gero village, Gyel district of Jos South local government area of the state.

Police has since confirmed the arrests of some suspects in connection with the incident for further investigations.
The state Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Nazif, at a monthly ministerial press conference in his office, said the government was worried by the continued violence and was doing everything possible to secure lives and property.
“Government is aware of the clash at Gero village between miners and there has been a security council meeting to handle the issues. Government shall tackle the problems soon, we appeal that people should remain clam,” while assuring that perpetrators of the violence would be brought to book.
