Plateau: NDE trains metal scavengers on business skills

The National Directorate for Employment (NDE) has trained scavengers of scrap metals on business skills and recycling in Jos.

The Directorate through its Small Scale Enterprises (SSE) organised a four-day training for 30 selected participants under the “Basic Business Training for Beneficiaries of Environpreneurship Development Scheme” in the state.

The Director-General of NDE, Malam Nuhu Fikpo said the training was aimed at empowering the beneficiaries.

Represented by Mrs. Cynthia Christopher, Fikpo said the training was to build their capacity to meet the market trends of their business.

“We want you as entrepreneurs to know what is expected of you in the market and want you to ask questions during this session so that you make profit with what you have learnt,” he said.

Plateau state coordinator of NDE, Malam Ibrahim Hardo Abdulazeez, said besides empowering the participants with skills, the Directorate also envisaged a situation whereby they would become self-reliant on the long run.

“It is expected that the training would help them in identifying and developing their strength in using waste products for wealth creation, and having the basic knowledge required for business management,” he said.

One of the participants, Yusuf Iliyas, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked NDE for the training and assured them of adopting it to expand their business.
