Plateau: Night inferno destroys major yam market in Namu community

A midnight inferno has destroyed food items worth several millions of naira at the popular Namu central yam market in Quan’pan local government area of Plateau state.

An eye witness, a resident of the community, Alhaji Kabiri Buba, informed newsmen that the inferno occurred on Sunday night, leaving more than 100 farmers with heavy loss.

“The cause of the fire is still not known to us,” he said while calling on government at all levels to come to the aid of the farmers.

Meanwhile, the senator representing Plateau South, Mrs. Nora Dadu’ut, has in a statement commiserated with the Long Jan of Namu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Safiyanu Allahnana, over the sad incident.

She further sympathised with the entire community, especially victims of the fire incident, adding that she was saddened by the occurrence of the incident.

“I commiserate with the entire people of Namu over this sad incident.

“Since I heard of this incident, I have not been my usual self; I feel very sad. I pray to God to revive the spirit of those affected by this incident.

“May God give them the grace to accept the loss and continue the struggle,” she prayed.

Senator Dadu’ut called on government and other charitable Nigerians to offer support for the victims to aid their quick recovery from the tragedy.
