Plateau trains commissioners, MDAs’ heads on revenue

Plateau state government said it is committed to the revival of revenue generation to achieve service delivery in the state.
Governor Simon Lalong stated this yesterday while declaring open a one day workshop organised by the state internal revenue service for members of the state executive council.
Represented by his deputy, Prof. Sonny Tyoden, Lalong said government’s commitment to service delivery in the face of the economic misfortune occasioned by the drop of the revenue accruing to the nation on monthly basis, necessitated the thinking out of the box under the new reality.
“It is because of this that emphasis has been placed by our Rescue Administration on revenue generation, collection and application tomeet the needs at hand,” he said.
According to him, just as man cannot survive without the continuous intake of air for life, no government, society and community, could survive without resources, adding the successful execution of developmental projects will not come by just mere wishes but through the practical effort of the people to collectively engage in the mobilisation of revenue for an effective service delivery to take place.
He said the theme of this engagement “Collaboration, Synergy and Legal Compliance Parameters; Optimising Internally Generated Revenue Collection in Plateau State for Effective Service Delivery and Development” is not only timely but necessary in order to improve the IGR of the state for the purpose of accelerating the much needed development.
Executive chairman of the state internal revenue service, Mr A. Dashe, said internal revenue mobilisation, revenue collection and revenue development must work together for the effective and efficient attainment of the five policy thrust of the rescue administration of Governor Lalong.
According to him, to accomplish the objectives of development agenda, government “must maximise and optimise existing internal revenue generation mechanism.”
