National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF ), has commended Nigeria Football Federation, the League Management Company and the Nigeria National League for insisting that debtor clubs pay their outstanding durables to players and coaches owed before they will be allowed to participate in the 2019/2020 football season.
According to a release by the Secretary- General of NANPF, Comrade Austin Popo, the above decision wais in accordance with the relevant provisions of the NFF and League regulations on players status and transfer, as well as the club licencing regulations.
Prior to the new stance by football authorities, the player’s union had been inundated with complaints from coaches and players over lingering debts by their current and former clubs over unpaid durables, which was subsequently referred to the football and league governing bodies before the present action.
“It is therefore heart warming to the players union, to know that the football authorities are taking this matter very seriously. The negative effect and impact of outstanding debts on our football is huge and should be discourage by all means,” Popo, ex-Nigeria international player and defunct NNB star, remarked.
“We already have huge number of players struggling to survive with their families, having worked for years without pay. We do not want more to join the number. We therefore, expect the football governing bodies to stand their ground and not succumb to any form of manipulation, by insisting that things are done properly, and for the benefits of Nigerian football,” the hardworking union scribe, further admonished.
