Plot to attack our presidential candidate will fail – SDP

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Friday said it has uncovered a plot by some persons in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to allegedly attack and harass the presidential candidate of the party, Prince Adewole Adebayo.

The party, therefore, warned that any attempt to intimidate its candidate in the 2023 general elections will fail.

SDP Campaign Council Director General and former Minister under President Muhammadu Buhari, Barrister Solomon Dalung, at a world press briefing in Abuja, lamented its presidential campaign council was privy of documents to allegedly frame and harass Mr Adebayo.

According to the Campaign DG, the document contained alleged orchestration by the men of the APC Presidential Campaign Council to unjustly use the police to intimidate and harassing the SDP presidential candidate through fake records of alleged criminal issues.

Dalung described the SDP presidential candidate as a Prince of Ondo kingdom with impeccable character, whose family’s intergrity has transited from third to fourth generation.

According to him, the Ondo-born prince has traveled and lived in different countries across the globe for businesses, and counted as a worthy citizen with testimonies of impeccable character that stands tall among all other candidates in the coming election.

He further cautioned that the ruling party which he said has turned their campaign rally to comedy, not to in its desperation, truncate the 2023 democratic transition.

Describing the forthcoming election as crucial and very important to Nigeria as nation, he urged Nigerians to elect credible candidates in 2023 while stressing that the SDP presidential candidate has presented more practical steps to solving the challenges bedeviling the nation.

Dalung said there were practical steps that Adebayo was poised to bringing back security, prosperity and progress to the country.

He further expressed reservations over some of the anomalies plaguing campaigns ahead of the 2023 polls, adding that instead of the ruling APC to engage Nigerians on issue-based campaign, it has made its campaign rally a comedy ground as well as resorting to violence.

“It calls to question, the violent level that characterised the campaigns,” he added.

He decried the flagrant use of government paraphernalia for campaign for the APC candidates, thereby, narrowing the space for other contenders.

Dalung said the use of government aircraft for campaign of the APC Presidential candidate was an abuse of power, adding that if such assets are provided for one candidate, same treatment should be accorded others.

Dalung charged Presidential candidates of all political parties to embrace issue-based campaigns, focusing on issues like security, poverty and those that are not in power should tell Nigerians what they will do.

In the case of SDP campaign, he said contrary to the style of APC, his party has been moving from one place to another and responsibly canvassing for the votes of Nigerians.
