Plot to probe Buhari’s health rubbish  –Rep

A member of the House of Representatives representing Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency of Enugu state, Hon. Pat Asadu, has described media report purporting a probe on Presdent Muhammadu Buhari’s health as fiction, and plot to divide members along party lines.

In the alleged report published by Daily Trust newspaper on Monday, it was stated that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, foiled moves by some members of the House to declare ailing President Buhari incapacitated.

The report further alleged “that forces within and outside the House of Representatives failed to get the lower chamber to set up a medical panel on the health of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

According to the report, “the forces had wanted the panel to be made up of six members – one each from the six geo-political zones,” adding that “the panel was to visit President Buhari in London to determine his state of health”, with the ultimate aim “to get a report stating that the president was incapacitated and so should “honourably resign” from office.”

But dismissing the report in a statement in Abuja,  Hon. Asadu,  bluntly described the allegations as fiction and utter rubbish.

Asadu, who also is the chairman, House Committee on Ports, Harbours and Waterways Transport, attributed the malicious intent behind the publication to mischief makers hell-bent of dividing the lower chamber along regional lines.

He said: “I read with utmost dismay the report published on Monday’s edition of Daily Trust newspaper, where it was alleged that some  members of the House of Representatives tried to bring a motion to the floor seeking a investigation into the health of the President.

“To state categorically, the intent of the report was conceived in bad taste, and is a attempt by desperate power mongers to infiltrate the ranks of the House by dividing members along party, regional and religious lines.

“It is disgusting that anyone would conceive such wicked narrative, particularly at a time when the unity of the country is threatened by continuous agitations and calls for succession. The report is utter nonsense and rubbish, as it contains no iota of truth to it.

The lawmaker, however, tasked Nigerians not to relent in striving for a united Nigeria, adding that all regions would fare better together than separately apart.
