Police arraign 52 year-old woman over alleged trespass

The police has arraigned a 52-year-old woman, Mabel Okechukwu, in a Kuje Magistrates’ Court, charged with alleged trespassing on a landed property.
The accused, a business woman, who resides at Sauka Area in Kuje, is facing a one-count charge of criminal trespass.

Prosecutor Ocheche Samuel told the court that the complainant, Mr Amechi Peter, of Plot 33 Area ‘A’ Nyanya, reported the matter to the Kuje police station on February 18.

Samuel said, “Mrs Okechukwu trespassed on a land with the plot No. 112 in AA2 Layout Kuje belonging to the complainant’s brother.

“The accused trespassed on the land by fencing and erecting a structure without the consent of the owner.”
He said that when the complainant went to inspect his brother’s property, he met builders working on the land and was told that Mrs Okechukwu gave the order to build the structure.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 342 of the Penal Code, which stipulated two years imprisonment or fine or both, if found guilty.
Ruling on the accused’s application for bail, the Magistrate, Mr Azubike Okeagwu, admitted her to bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum.

Okeagwu said the surety must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 06 and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
He ordered the prosecution to get its witnesses ready, and adjourned the case to March 7 for hearing. (NAN)
