Police arraign driver for ‘stealing’ N2.1m car

The police yesterday arraigned a driver, Donatus Nwafor, 34, in a Senior Magistrates’ Court in Wuse zone 2, Abuja, for stealing a car valued at N2.1 million.
Nwafor of No. 4, Mistrahan str, off Pardkau Crescent, Wuse 2, is charged with theft.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Imoru Ango, told the court that Mr Barnabas Bongven of same address lodged a report against the accused at the Wuse Police Station on March 24.
Ango said the accused stole the complainant’s Honda Accord with registration number KUJ 166 CQ.

He said the accused confessed during the investigation to have committed the offence.
Ango said the car was recovered from the accused.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 288 of Penal Code.
If convicted, he is liable to seven years in prison or with option of fine.
However, after the charges were read to him, he pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mr Anthony Ogboi, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with a surety who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
He also ordered that the surety must have a means of livelihood and also deposit his/her passport photographs with the court’s registrar.
Agboi adjourned the case until May 9, for further hearing. (NAN)
