Police arrest 10 suspected kidnappers, robbers in Niger

The Police in Niger state have arrested 10 suspects over kidnapping and armed robbery incidents in parts of the state.
Parading the suspects in Minna yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, DSP Mohammed Abubakar, stated that a syndicate of the kidnappers was smashed after collecting about N700,000 as ransom from victims.
He listed the syndicate to include Kabiru Madawaki and Samaila Wanko from Bagi in Mariga local government of the state, adding that the gang met their waterloo when they threatened to kidnap one Alhaji Sardauna Babirki and demanded for two-N2 million ransom to avoid being kidnapped.
The PPRO said another gang of kidnappers headed by Yushao Audu and Mohammed Sani were crushed by the police operatives in the same Mariga local government of the state.
He said that the gang issued a threat letter to one Alhaji Dantani Audu, demanding for N4 million to avoid being kidnapped, adding:”but they were arrested before collecting the ransom amount.” He said that another three man gang of kidnappers met their waterloo in Kwakuti village in Paikoro local government of the state, adding that the gang had last year collected a ransom amount from one Alhaji Bahago after demanding for N500, 000.
He said that the same gang came back to the same victim in June this year demanding for two million or face kidnap by the gang.
The victim was said to have alerted the police resulting in operation that during which one of the gang members identified as Abubakar Umar from Mashegu local government of the state, was arrested.
The police spokesman also paraded one Jide Mairisu of Beji in Bosso local government, a member of 8 member robbery gang who was arrested after robbing a man and killing his son.
He said that the police have intensified efforts to arrest the other members of the gang now on the run.
