Police arrest 12, recover 13 guns in Niger


The police in Niger state have arrested 12 suspects for robbery and unlawful possession of firearms after recovering 13 guns from them.


The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state police command, ASP Abiodun Wasiu stated this Tuesday in a statement in Minna.


The PPRO said that three of the suspects named Joshau Baka, Titus Ishaku and John Shugaba we’re arrest in Sarkin-Pawa area of the state with 11 locally fabricated guns on 20/1/21 while operatives in Agwara area also arrested one Alex Yohana with two double barrel guns same day.


“The suspects were arrested with eleven locally fabricated guns at Sabon-gari area of Sarkin Pawa which were concealed in a bag of sawdust.”


He explained that during interrogation, the said John Shugaba claimed to be a member the vigilante group at Gwagwada Chukun LGA and contracted Titus Ishaku, a welder to fabricate the eleven guns for him at the rate of three thousand naira each.

According to ASP Wasiu, “On 20/01/2021 at about 1000hrs, Police operatives attached to Agwara division while on patrol  along kasabo/Agwara road, intercepted and arrested one Alex Yohana ‘m’ 28yrs of Shanga LGA Kebbi State. The suspect was arrested at Kasabo village via Agwara LGA with two locally fabricated double barrel guns.”


He stated that the suspect confessed to have bought the guns from one Bamaiyi Ribba of Ribba, Danko Wasagu LGA of Kebbi State at the rate of twenty thousand naira each.


The PPRO said another gang of four suspects were nabbed in Maikukele area of Minna after vandalizing 41 rail tracks and were on the way to market.


 He said, ‘On 09/01/2021, at about 0300hrs, Police/vigilante operatives attached to Maikunkele division while on patrol along Maikunkele-Zheko road, arrested four suspects; Adamu Abdullahi age 30yrs, Ahmadu Sa’adu age 25yrs both ‘m’ of Maitumbi Minna, Ojo Okuo age ‘m’ of Gbaiko village and Rabiu Yunusa age 35yrs ‘m’ of Angwan Sarki, Paida Minna.”


He explained that the suspects were arrested with fourty one pieces of vandalized rail tracks loaded in two Hijet pick-up vans with Reg. No. XG 668 AA and RSH 742 XB. 


He said, “During interrogation, Adamu Abdullahi confessed to have bought the rail tracks from one Hussani presently at large and contacted Ojo Okuo who cut the rail tracks to movable sizes, while Ahmadu Sa’adu and Rabiu Yunusa were conveying the tracks from Jangaru village to Kasuwa Gwari Market Minna with the said vehicles”.


ASP WASIU said the police in another swoop on criminals in Minna arrested four robbery suspects in Kpakungu while trying to escape through motor park.


He named the robbery suspects ad Suleiman Salihu, Abdulkareem Saidu, Mustapha Jibril and Mohammed Umar.

“On 20/01/2021 at about 2300hrs, Police operatives attached to Kpakungu division while on patrol along Kpakungu-Bida road, arrested four suspects at Lagos park”.


He said that the suspects were searched and one knife, one itel S13 phone and a pincher were found in their possession.


According to him, ” Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects robbed a victim of the phone at Sauka-Kahuta area Minna”, adding that the suspects will be charged to court
