Police arrest 18 in Oyo for ballot snatching, other electoral offences

Oyo state Commissioner of Police Mr Shina Olukolu on Wednesday said over  18 suspects were arrested  in  the state for ballot snatching and other electoral offences during the last Saturday’s governorship and state House of Assembly elections in the state .

CP Olukolu who made this known while speaking through the Oyo state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Olugbenga Fadeyi stated that the arrested suspects are to face criminal prosecution after conclusion of police investigation.

The CP gave the offences committed by the arrested suspects to include ballot box snatching, violence and other related electoral fraud committed in different parts of the state during  last Saturday poll.

“I can confidently tell you that 18 suspects were arrested in connection with electoral offences during the last governorship and state House of Assembly poll in different parts of the state. And seven guns, 30 live cartridges and some miscellaneous items were recovered from them, “he said

The Police Commissioner added that the suspects are now  at the  State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID)  

“The State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) is handling the investigation and the suspects will later be transferred to Abuja for further investigation before prosecution,” he stated.

CP Olukolu stressed that seven guns, 30 live cartridges, and some other miscellaneous items were recovered from the suspects and the suspects who are currently held at the SCIID would soon be transferred to Abuja for further investigation in line with the directives from the Inspector General of Police (IG) before  prosecution.
