Police arrest 61 suspected criminals in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa state police command Friday said it has arrested 61 criminal suspects in the state.

The state’s commissioner of Police (CP), Bola Longe, made the disclosure at a press briefing at the command Headquarters, in Lafia the Nasarawa state capital.

Longe said that the command has recorded some successes within the past three weeks with the arrest of 61 suspects on different crimes and belonging to different suspected criminal gangs that terrorize citizens of the state.

He identified the nature of crimes to include: criminal conspiracy, fraudulent transaction and unlawful possession of fake currency, armed robbery, Kidnapping, illegal possession of live ammunition, rape and Impostor.

The CP said the command on June 4, 2021 arrested two suspected criminals Hasssan Alidu “M” 25 years, a 100 level student of Nasarawa state University Keffi, (NSUK) faculty of Agriculture, Lafia and Yusha’u Hudu “M” 32 years with the sum of N7,800,000) counterfeit currency all in N1000 denomination.

“Further investigation led to the arrest of more suspects”.

He added that on 08/72021 at about 2000hrs, while acting on credible intelligence, police personnel attached to Area Command, Karu on surveillance patrol arrested one Tobi Adegbite when a search was conducted on him, one locally fabricated Berretta Pistol was recovered from him as exhibit.

“The suspect has confessed to beva member of a criminal gang terrorizing Karu and its environs .Investigation is ongoing at State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia.

The CP however, said that one Terver Upaa Yaji a secondary school dropout was also arrested who at different times and places posed or parades himself as the Vice Chancellor and acting Registrar of the Federal University of Lafia, on social media defrauding unsuspecting individuals of their hard earned money under the guise of awarding them contracts and securing them admission into Federal University of Lafia, while in some cases claimed to be a lawyer.

“The impostor named Terver Upaa Yaji ‘M’ 39 years of No 52 ERCC Bukan Sidi ,Lafia.Upon diligent search ,one complimentary card bearing Terver Upaa Yaji esq, LLD,LLM & PhD was recovered from him as exhibit. The suspect has confessed to the crime, and investigation is ongoing and will be charge to court afterwards.

The command further pleaded with the good people of the state for more support.
