Police arrests 10 for diverting N40m with of goods in Ibadan


Ten suspects are now in Police net in Oyo state over the alleged diversion of goods valued about N40million to an unknown destination.


Briefing journalists Monday on the activities of the Command at its Eleyeke headquthe Oyo state Commissioner of Police, Mr  Shina Olukolu said the suspects were arrested by SARs operatives based on information 

“Based on credible information that some notorious hoodlums who specialized in hijacking and diverting trailer loaded with goods on the highways had highjacked a Mack trailer loaded with new SUMEC portable generators at Akinyele Area, along Ibadan/Oyo Expressway, and diverted the goods valued about Forty million (N40m), to an unknown destination.

“The SARS operatives swung into action, carried out discreet investigation, and in the process, the following members of the criminal gang who identified themselves as Adekunle Awoyode, (criminal reciever), Sarafadeen Abiodun (truck driver), Ismail Oyelowo (criminal recieved), Abiodun Azeez, Sulaimon Olamilekan, Olasode Hammed (motor boy), Jelili Olowoaje (criminal reciever), Hamish Tafa (criminal reciever),  Quadri Afeez (criminal reciever), and Wasilat Taiwo (criminal reciever), were arrested.” he said.


CP Olukolu added that  exhibits recovered from the 10 suspects to include, “410 pieces of new brand SUMEC portable generators, 560 4litres gallons of Conoil Engine oil, a Mark truck with registration no EKY 743 XF and one Toyota Camry Car with Reg no SMK 591 EQ.” 


Answering question from journalists, the driver of the truck, Sarafadeen Abiodun confirmed that the generators and the engine oil were loaded from Lagos and meant for delivery in Port Harcourt, Rivers state before he diverted the goods to Ibadan in Oyo state.


The driver stressed that if the deal had succeeded, his own share of the total money would have been  N1million.


Another suspect, Wasilat Taiwo, said to be the suspected reciever of the goods said she was promised to be given a sum of N1million if the business works out, saying, initially, she wasn’t aware of the nature of the goods.


“They told me that the goods was an oil, and I will be giving one million naira if the deal works out, am a provision seller, am not selling generator.”
