Police assault ex-NUJ staff in Edo


A former staff of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo state council, Mr. Osagie Wealth Efe, has been reportedly assaulted by a police personnel.
Osagie was said to have been assaulted by a policeman attached to the Taskforce on Covid-19 Committee at Urhokpota ground, King square in Benin City.


Osagie said trouble started when he tried to plead for mercy on behalf of a pedestrian who the said policeman had stripped of his clothes for allegedly breaking Covid-19 protocol.
In a petition addressed to the the Chairman, Covid-19 Human Rights Watch Committee, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Benin branch, demanded a thorough investigation into the incident which occurred on February 17, 2021.


While calling on the state Commissioner of Police to take urgent steps to bring the culprit (now at large) to book, the petitioner alleged that the injury he sustained in his eye from the assault has left him with scars and severe discomfort.
