Only two petitions were Tuesday read at the inaugural sitting of the Imo State Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Police Brutality and other Related Judicial Killings.
In her opening remarks during the commission’s inaugural sitting, the chairman, Justice Florence Duroha Igwe(rtd) said she was surprised that the commission received only two petitions which was a far cry from what they had expected.
She added that before now, the state was touted as a place which recorded the highest number of cases on police brutality in the country as she read in the news, especially on-line.
She added that the dearth of petitions in the state had made her to question the authenticity of that claim because they waited for sometimes to receive more petitions, but it was not possible.
She however, urged citizens to bring forward their petitions since the commission’s sitting would last six weeks.
The two petitions eventually read involved the late Kelechi Chikwe who was represented by Miracle Chikwe and that of A.J. Nwosu and were adjourned to November 9, 2020.
Later, the leader of a group known as “We Are Everyone”, Anyakamnele Chijioke Samuel told our correspondent that he was surprised that his petition was not read, having submitted it at appropriate quarters.
