Police comb Edo forests for kidnapped Catholic priest

Operatives of the Edo state police command yesterday combed forests in Uhunmwode local government area of the state in search of a kidnapped Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Edwin Omorogbe. The cleric was said to have been abducted by gunmen on Wednesday around Egba community junction on the BeninAuchi expressway in Uhunmwode local government area of the state. Fr. Omorogbe was reportedly kidnapped while returning from Uromi to Benin City and taken to unknown destination by his abductors. It was learnt that the Cleric is of the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said: “Yes, we are already in the bush. You will have to call me back for the details.” Kokumo further stated that the operatives would ensure safe release of the priest.
