Police institute: Research issues that’ll be beneficial to the system, IGP tasks participants


The Inspector  General  of Police (IGP), Usman Akali Baba, has tasked participants of Strategic Leadership  and Command Course (SLCC) 03/2021 to research on issues that would be beneficial to them and the system on completion.
The IGP handed the charge when course participants  and management  team of  National Institute  for Police  Studies (NIPS) led by the Director General, 
Professor Olu Ogunsakin, paid him a courtesy visit, Tuesday at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The Police boss, who assured that the Force would support them in ensuring the success of the course, noted that their policing career would be impacted positively after the training.
Addressing the participants, drawn  from the Nigeria Police Force  and their counterparts in Sierra Leone, he said their visit to the Force Headquarters would also serves as a familiarisation  tour for them to see activities in the various  formations.


According to him, “We are here to undergo a strategic training that will make an impact in your policing career and it is a course that you must have received as you are ascending in the managerial stage in the Nigerian Police Force.”This is not going to be the end of the course you are going to acquire, but it will also prepare you for other strategic trainings in order to give your best in any area.


Earlier, Prof. Ogunsakin explained that, the visit was in two-fold; to keep the police boss abreast of the activities in the institution and also to congratulate him on his appointment as the IGP.
The DG, who further stated that the theme of the Course was: “Strategic leadership in policing diverse society”, noted: “Present here are the three Directors, five Synidate Directors, and 51 participants made up of 41 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) from the NPF and 10 officers: four Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), two CPs and four ACPs from the Sierra Leone Police.
“At NIPS, we advocate research-led adaptive curriculum. Our lecturers are not indoctrinators of knowledge, rather, they are mentors of learning.
“They are here to assist the participants to become a better leader. They will help them to integrate knowledge with solving problems.
“During this process, the participants will conduct research, express themselves in the open forum, execute and innovate.”
