Police investigate death of woman dumped in Ekiti waterway

The Police in Ekiti state have commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of an elderly woman whose body was recovered in a waterway in Ajilosun Area of Ikere Road in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital on Sunday.
Blueprint gathered that the body was discovered by passersby in the area at about 6am, just as a man suspected to have been responsible for dumping the body was arrested by the people and handed over to the Police.
A mob was said to have descended on the suspect, who was saved by the timely intervention of the Police.
One of the residents, who craved anonymity, alleged that the suspect “was seen with the body in the river at about 6am and he was accosted by people around.
He was about to be lynched but for the timely arrival of policemen.” According to him, the suspect said to be in his 20s is believed to have killed the woman for ritual purposes.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Ekiti state, Mr Caleb Ikechukwu, proved abortive as at the time of going to press, however, a Police source who did not want his name in print confirmed the incident and said investigation was underway.
