Police investigate video on mobbing of kidnappers, urge residents to shun jungle justice


The FCT Police Command has commenced investigation into a viral video of some suspected kidnappers being attacked by angry mob.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, ASP Miriam Yusuf, Tuesday in Abuja, said: “The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to the viral video of a mob action in the social media, suggesting that the persons being mobbed are suspected kidnappers who abducted a woman and her child at Wuse 2, Abuja.


“Contrary to the speculation, preliminary investigation reveals that, it was an incident of one chance robbery involving the two suspects in the video, who attempted to defraud their victim in a painted taxi with reg no. KUJ 959 AQ, however, Police operatives from Wuse Division swiftly moved to scene upon receiving the information, unfortunately, due to mob action one of the suspects was burnt to death while the other suspect is currently receiving medical attention .


“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police CP. Bala Ciroma has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident and appeals to members of the public to shun jungle justice.”
The spokesperson further stated that, “The Command implores residents to report all suspicious movements, emergency or distress, through these numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653,08028940883, and to report the conduct of Police Officers, call the Public Complaint Bureau (PCB) number :09022222352.”
