Police kill 2 robbers in Niger

The police in Niger state have killed two armed robbers operating in Bangi town in Mariga local government area of the state during an exchange of fire.

A member of the gang, Mamman Sodangi, was said to have been by arrested by police at Mariga divisional police headquarters while  acting on a tip-off.
The suspect was  searched and discovered to have concealed in his bag three (3) AK 47, 50 rounds of ammunitions and three (3) magazines.

It was learnt that on further interrogation by the operatives, the suspect confessed that he belongs to a gang of armed robbers that has been terrorising residents of the area, including neigbouring states of Kebbi, Zamfara and Kaduna, particularly on market days, claiming that the gang leader resides at Farin Shinga near Kontagora in Niger state.

He led the operatives to the village to arrest the gang leader, Buba Jabbi, but it was learnt on the way back to Mariga that other members of the gang ambushed the team, which led to a shootout between the police and the robbers.
Two of the robbers were said to have been felled by bullets but were rushed to Bangi General Hospital where they later died.
