Police kill bandit, foil attempted kidnap of Indian


Kaduna state Police Command has foiled an attempt to kidnap an Indian, as operatives engaged bandits in gun duel, killed one bandit and recovered four AK47 magazines, at Dankande, Igabi local government area of Kaduna state. 

Kaduna state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Muhammed Jalige, said in a statement issued on Tuesday that a mobile phone and the said magazines which contained 120 rounds of live 7.62 X 39mm ammunitions were recovered from the hangs alongside the body of the slain bandit that has been deposited in the morgue. 
“On the 21st June, 2021 at about 21:33hrs while on escort duty of an expatriate to Plan Farm Phase at Dankande area of Igabi LGA Police officers ran into an ambush laid by suspected armed bandits who in their desperate attempt to kidnap the expatriate, shot berserkly at the officers which however was met with stiffer resistance from the operatives. 
“The gun duel lasted for some time but the operatives were able to repel the bandits and secure the Indian expatriate unhurt. The bandits fled into the forest with bullet wounds.
“A joint team of Police and military personnel while on search of the area today 22nd June, 2021 recovered the lifeless body of one of the bandit, four AK47 magazines fully loaded with 120 rounds of live 7.62 X 39mm ammunitions and a mobile phone.
“The recovered body has been deposited at the morgue while forensic analysis of the said phone is being carried out with the view of getting more details on the gang, their activities as well as location for a possible dislodgement of their camps.
“The Commissioner of Police Kaduna Command, CP UM Muri, commended the act of gallantry exhibited by the operatives and urged other officers of the Command to emulate same,” ASP Jalige said. 
Meanwhile, Governor Nasir el-Rufai has commended the police operatives for showing vigour and valour while engaging the bandits in gun duel. Kaduna state government lauded the police operatives for thwarting the armed bandits following the attempted kidnapping on Monday, according Kaduna state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan. 
“Governor el-Rufai welcomed the report with satisfaction, and has conveyed his gratitude to the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muri and his team. The Governor reserved special praise for the operatives who foiled the attack, and lauded their gallantry. Letters of commendation from the Governor will be issued to the police operatives,” Aruwan said.
