Police mobilise 5, 200 officers for Benue LG poll

The Benue state police command Friday disclosed that it had drafted 5, 200 staff for Saturday’s local government election in the state.

Briefing newsmen at the Command’s headquarters in Makurdi, the police public relations officer (PPRO), DSP Catherine Sewuese Anene, said some of the men “will be part of the patrol team and others will be drafted to polling units to monitor the election.”

According to her, there will still be restriction of movement as from 8:00pm to 6:00am as already being observed and that all activities pertaining to the election will not go beyond 7:00pm.

She said officers and men of the Force “who have been drafted to cover the election are advised to observe safety rules of Covid-19,” adding that facemask and hands sanitisers would be distributed to policemen that would cover the election.

Anene also said the police already had their hands full with the challenges of Covid-19 pandemic, but were working hard to fully discharge its responsibilities of fighting crime.
