Police nab 7 for cultism

The Taraba State Police Command has arrested seven suspected cult members reportedly during an initiation following information provided by members of the vigilance group in Wukari Local Government Area.

Addressing journalists in Jalingo, Mr. Joseph Kwaji, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said they were arrested in a forest opposite Federal Government College Wukari on the Jalingo road.

According to him, “The police patrol team on arrival at the scene met a group of cult members, popularly known as Black Axe Confraternity, initiating new members. One Julius Atsorga, was shot on his left hand for resisting to be initiated.”
Kwaji listed the items recovered from the suspects to include one locally-made revolver, four rounds of 9.mm life ammunition and one empty shell.

Others are a bucket containing blood donated by each member and other concoctions.
He said that the case was under investigation and the suspects would be charged with criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly and unlawful possession of fire arms on completion.

The spokesperson appealed to the people to assist the police with information that would help in the arrest of cult members and other criminals in the state.
