Police nab 9 EBSU students for cultism in Ebonyi

Police command in Ebonyi state on Friday said it has arrested nine students of Ebonyi state University (EBSU) for shooting some policemen attached to the command.

The suspected cultists had last week snatched a police security van from policemen on duty along the Ishieke campus road axis and took them to the university where it was recovered by the police.

The state Commissioner of Police Awosola Awotunde announced Friday that a total of nine students of the university have been arrested in connection to the cult activities.

Awotunde who spoke to journalists in Abakaliki during the decoration of newly promoted officers and men of the state police command said: “cultism is giving us a lot of problems here. The cult groups were going for burial in their red insignia, they had encounter with our patrol team stationed at junction. They opened fire and our men responded, nine of them were arrested.

“They have been charged to cult. We are supposed to even parade them but they have been charged to court and remanded in prison”.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Ohaukwu local government area Hon. Clement Odah has decried cult activities in the area.

The Chairman while addressing journalists in Ezzamgbo the LGA council headquarters regretted that cult activities in the local government has been on the increase despite his efforts to curb the menace.
