Police nab kidnappers of ABU students, Kaduna lawmaker, Turkish national, others



The Nigeria Police have arrested kidnappers of three state dents of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State lawmaker Ibrahim Dabo and four Turkish national in Kwara state.


The kidnappers were among 58 suspects paraded for kidnapping, armed robbery, car theft, unlawful possession of weapons and other crimes, by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) DCP Frank Mba, Wednesday at the Special Anti-Robbery Squads Headquarters in Abuja.


Mba said eight of the suspects, who were responsible for kidnap of Hon.  Dabo, confessed that they demanded N10 million as ransom before the lawmaker was released.
One of the suspect; Kabiru Abdullahi, however, claimed his gang members lied to him that only N6 million was paid as ransom, noting that he was given N450,000, which was later recovered from him by the Police.


He said items recovered from the suspects included 18 AK47 rifles, 1233 rounds of Ak47 ammunitions, nine pump action, five single barrel riffle, one automatic pistol, one hand grenade, 53 live cartridges and several stolen vehicles.


The spokesperson said the gang responsible for the kidnap of students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, and House of Representatives member from Sokoto state, operated in military uniform, noting that they had confessed that the uniforms were purchased at the rate of N15, 000 from those who sell used clothes (Okirika) in Kaduna state.
According to them, they preferred to use the military uniform because  road users usually feel safe whenever they see men in uniform and are easily deceived.
They also claimed that a ransom of N5.5 million was paid before their victims were released.

Similarly, the gang responsible for the kidnap of Turkish nationals in Kwara state said N20 million ransom was demanded but nothing was paid before they were rescued.


The spokesperson said the suspects would be charged to court on completion of investigation.
