Police officer kills colleague in Asaba, 8 arrested

A female police officer attached to Delta state police command has been shot dead by her female colleague during a protest in Asaba, the Delta state capital.

The female officer was reportedly killed when some traders in Bonsaac area of Asaba were protesting. 

It was gathered that four police operatives were drafted from the ‘B’ Division,  Asaba to quell the protest against a self-imposed chairman of petty traders in the area.

According to an eyewitness, one of the cops went berserk and opened fire, with the bullet accidentally hitting his female colleague who died immediately.

The unfortunate death of the female cop, led to the arrest and detention of some women t the command’s headquarters in Asaba.

No fewer than eleven petty traders were said to have been arrested while several others fled the area to avoid the wrath of the operatives.

Investigation further revealed, however, that three of the arrested petty traders had been released as at the time of filing this report.

The suspected killer police officer has been arrested and detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

The state commissioner of police, Adeyinka Adeleke, who confirmed with the death of his officer said the “case is under investigation with the SCID”.
