Ogun Police Command yesterday paraded 70 suspects for various alleged criminal offences.

Among those paraded was a 31-year-old member of an armed robbery gang, Wasiu  Ganiyu, who shot the Divisional Police Officer of Ogbere Division on September 13.

The police also paraded 31 members of a cultists group, who the police boss said, were on the wanted list, while planning an initiation of new members, numbering 309 to their group.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Illiyasu, while parading the suspects at the Command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, disclosed that the command arrested the suspects after embarking on a special operation called:   “Operation Criminal Mop Up”.

They were arrested for various offences ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, impersonation, cultism and  ritual killing, among others.

Illiyasu said the police, knowing full well about high crime rate in the ember months, took the war against crime to the door steps of the criminals, “so as not to give them any leverage to attack good people of the state”.

Giving the breakdown of the arrest, the police boss said the suspects were apprehended from different areas of the state, saying some of them were caught in the act while some were arrested through technical intelligence gathering.
