Police probe ‘suicide’ on Lagos bridge

The Lagos State Police Command yesterday said it had commenced investigation into the report that a yet to be identified woman allegedly packed her car on the Third mainland Bridge and jumped into the Lagoon.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Lagos state, SP Chike Oti, told journalists that though the Police had not received any official report, they were already making efforts to find out the true story.
He said that the report of their investigation would be made public as soon as the police find anything.
“There is no official report yet.
It is the news making the rounds.
However, our rescue team is searching, divers and Marine Policemen are working.
Investigation is ongoing, findings will be made public please,” the spokesman told NAN.
NAN learnt that the purported incident happened on Sunday and at about 8.45pm, efforts were still on to recover her body, without luck.
There were, however, conflicting accounts as to how the incident happened with a version claiming that she was a passenger in an UBER car, driving inward Lagos Island, when she told the driver to stop.
Thereafter, she reportedly alighted from the vehicle, crossed the road and plunged into the lagoon, just as another version had that the deceased had parked her Ford Explorer SUV on top of the 3rd Mainland bridge and plunged into the lagoon.
Picture of the vehicle with plate number APP 190 CE went viral on social media.
