Police recruitment: 294,851 jostle for 10,000 jobs as portal closes

 

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has received 294,851 applications in the on-going recruitment of 10,000 Constable into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), even as the recruitment portal officially closes today (Friday).

A press statement by PSC Head, Press and Public Relations, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, yesterday in Abuja, said that as at 12:30pm, January 10, 2019, 294,851 applications have been received.

“The Portal for the recruitment of 10,000 Nigerians into the NPF as Constables by the PSC will be officially closed tomorrow, Friday, January 11, 2019 by 12 midnight.

“The Portal was opened for applications on Friday the 30th of November, 2018. The Federal Character Commission requires that advertisements for recruitments into federal government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) must run for six weeks to allow applicants enough opportunity to apply,” the statement said.

According to the spokesperson, Chairman of the Commission, IGP Alhaji Musiliu Smith (retd), said that commission would start online short listing of qualified applicants after the closure of the portal.

The short listed applicants, the chairman said, would thereafter be invited for screening and other stages of the recruitment exercise.

He further stated that, “Niger state maintained the lead in the number of applications received with 17,790 applicants, while Bayelsa state kept its last position with 1,797 applications.

“Niger state is followed by Kano with 16,800 and Katsina, 16,666. Lagos state is second from the rear with 1,720 applications followed by Ebonyi State with, 2,218.

“Male applicants continued to dominate the exercise with 255,189 applications with females trailing with only 39,662 applicants.”
