Police smash robbery syndicate in FCT

Th e FCT Police Command has smashed an armed robbery syndicate said to have been terrorising residents of Waru, a suburb of Abuja and its environs, just as two members of the gang were arrested. A press statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Offi cer (PPRO), DSP Anjuguri Manzah, yesterday in Abuja, said the suspects: Kingsley Ewoh, 24; and Chidibere Ejike; both of Waru, Apo, were arrested yesterday at about 5:30am.

According to him, the Divisional Police Offi cer (DPO) in charge of Apo, CSP Yahaya Jega, made this known while giving security brief to the Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the FCT, CP Musa Kimo. Th e statement read in part: “Th e suspects one Kingsley Ewoh ‘m’ 24 years and Chidibere Ejike ‘m’ of Waru, Apo, were arrested on August 7, 2017, at about 5:30am after a distress call was received that they were carrying out a house to house robbery attack on residents of Waru and dispossessing occupants of cash, phones and other valuables.

“Th e syndicate is also renowned for its late-night attack on fun seekers at relaxation joints. One of the suspects who sustained injury while trying to escape has been taken to hospital for treatment. “Th e exhibit recovered from the suspects include one locally fabricated revolver pistol, four live cartridges, ten phones of diff erent makes, three wallets and quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.” Th e spokesperson further stated that CP Kimo has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the command Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) for discreet investigation He said the police boss also reiterated the unyielding commitment of the command, under his supervision, to intensify its onslaught against unrepentant criminals in the territory.
