Police to commence clamp down on okada riders in uyo metropolis

Disturbed by the use of motorcycles in perpetuating criminal activities  in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital, the state police command has put in place necessary security measures to arrest and prosecute persons found riding motorcycle(okada) within Uyo metropolis.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Zaki Ahmed, who made this known Saturday, expressed concern that civilians and security personnel were in the habit of flouting state government law restricting the use of motorcycles within Uyo.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Odiko MacDon, Command’s Public Relations Officer,(PPRO) in a statement made available to our correspondent in Uyo said :”the CP is perplexed and miffed at the manner in which some persons including security agencies have continued to flout the law restricting the use of motorcycles within Uyo metropolis.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Akwa Ibom state Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the law prohibiting the use of motorcycles within Uyo metropolis is still in force.”

The Commissioner of Police further warned that, effective Monday, April 15, 2019, the command will commence a massive enforcement of the law prohibiting the use of motorcycles within the metropolis.
